Youth Worker---Alan Burke

In September Alan came to work with the youth of the Church. This is a joint project between the four churches. (Carndonagh, Malin, Greenbank and Moville). He works closely with the youth leaders and parents helping out with events already up and running and making preparation for new ideas.

Each Tuesday he liaises with Rev. Gilbert Young re the activities planned. He also attend a training and support group for all youth workers and meets Helen Brice from Church House at regular intervals.

In September he worked with Rev Young in setting up an Alpha Course for young people which ran for 15 weeks. He also helps at the Bible Class for young people.

In October preparations were made in Carndonagh and Malin churches for the setting up and running of a Children’s Club for National school children. The Club was held in Malin Church Hall on Wednesday evenings in Novemeber and will recommence again in March. 20 Children took part in the club and parents helped Alan with the running of it. The Youth Club at Hillhead for young people aged 12 + continues to go from strength to strength with Alan taking an active part with the Youth Leaders.
The ‘Grub Crawl’ on Saturday 23rd October was a great success—thanks to those who provided the food! The night ended with a video. The youth club also had a sleepover (or a ‘Stay Awake’ as it turned out to be) in Fahan Church Hall which was enjoyed by all (but extremely tiring!). The Youth also attended 5 aside football in Letterkenny which was organised as part of the Donegal Youth Convention.

Future plans.

Plans are in the pipeline for the summer months. This will include a visiting team of young people to help Alan run a children’s summer club in Moville/Greenbank from 4th -10th July and also in Carndonagh and Malin from 11th -17th July (dates to be verified later). It is also hoped to include events during these 2 weeks for the older teens and young people including paint balling, band nights, barbeques etc.

Alan has covered a lot of ‘miles’ since he joined us in September and we hope he continues to receive the support he needs of the coming months. We wish Alan well in co-operation with the 4 churches as we seek to build on the good beginnings taking place in our community.
Parents and church members are asked to encourage our young people to take advantage of the ‘new scene’ beginning in the 4 churches. ‘relationship building’ with each other and with Jesus takes time and effort, and we hope that the excellent star made by Alan will be built upon.

The next steering committee meeting will be in the Carndonagh Manse on 24th Feb at 8pm when anyone interested in future plans is invited to come along.
